Week 8
We have come to the end of week 8. There were some really great readings this week. I loved the address by Elder Holland and his wife, However Long and Hard the Road. It’s fun to hear the wives of the authorities speak. They have great insight and it’s interesting to see how they compliment their husbands. I specifically liked the part where Patricia Holland says, “too many of us learn only through our heads and not through our hearts! A common man or woman will hear only the commonplace, but a man or a woman connected to the powers of heaven will learn to be an inheritor of those powers.” It reminded me that on my own I cannot accomplish as much as I can when I am listening to the Spirit and heeding the guidance and direction given to me by my Heavenly Father, even if I don’t understand it. I know that as I am going through school, I need to be praying fervently for help to achieve my goals. I also really enjoyed the talk given by President Monson, Looking Back and Moving Forward. I love hearing about the strength of the pioneers and the amazing faith they displayed. One of my favorite quotes is from this talk, “I plead with you to turn to our Heavenly Father in faith. He will lift you and guide you. He will not always take your afflictions from you, but He will comfort and lead you with love through whatever storm you face.” I know that by following Christ our burdens can be lightened, even though they are still there. It is only through trials that we can grow, so I understand their necessity; however, I am thankful for the Savior who helps me through the storms of this life and know that He will always be there to guide me and lift me up.
